The house at 224 West 14th Ave was first listed in 1912 under owner Henry Wilfred Maynard who resided there until 1939. Maynard was born on July 31, 1867 in Rhyl, Denbighshire, Wales. He arrived in Vancouver in 1891 and quickly took charge and became manager of Canadian Explosives Ltd. (formerly known as Hamilton Powder Company) until 1911. He was also a director for the Vancouver & Nanaimo Coal Company Limited and owned an impressive amount of real estate in Vancouver. In his marriage to Emily Stewart the pair had three daughters: Gertrude Eva, Margaret Emily and Catherine Easterby. He lived in Vancouver until his death in 1948.

The house style is Front Gabled with stained glass windows, flared porch posts, and a second level balcony with two brackets. There is a wooden fire escape staircase which runs on the left side of the house.
