Description

This house is a beautiful example of Craftsman construction and one of nine homes in this block that are historically significant. Craftsman architectural elements include the gable dormer on the front of the house, the brackets under the roof, open rafter tails, and shake cladding on the upper floors. The upper windows are double hung and the lower windows have stained glass transoms that were common in these homes.

The house was designed by H. Morling and was owned and renovated by Geo Hackmuth a property broker and developer in 1911.

W.H. Dobson the Managing Director of the Vancouver Cartage Co. purchased the home shortly after it was finished and his family lived in it for the next 23 years. By 1948 many neighbourhood homes had been converted to accommodate boarders and three families and three boarders lived in the home.
