Description

Built as Postal Station C, in 1914-1916 by Archibald Campbell Hope, its Beaux Arts detailing, with corner clock tower, paired pilasters and rusticated stone base repeated the style of the downtown Main Post Office. One rare surviving detail is the wrought iron cresting, removed from many Vancouver buildings due to war- time scrap metal drives. The Post Office later shared space with federal agencies: the Department of Agriculture in 1937 followed by the RCMP in 1963. Public postal services had moved elsewhere by 1949.

It remained vacant from 1976 to 1981, by which time local cultural and social organizations saw its potential and expressed interest in converting it to new uses. A comprehensive rehabilitation was completed in 1983 under City ownership and it retains its community services with upper floors rented to various social service agencies.

The tower clock was built in 1915 by JB Joyce & Cl. Ltd., Whitechurch, England.
