Description

Originally the BC Telephone Company Offices and Stores, this masonry building was later known as the BEST building. It is the oldest surviving building in the South East False Creek area, with construction having begun in 1913. It’s construction continued into the early years of WWI, a time of little construction in Vancouver. Similar vernacular industrial buildings are common in Gastown and Yaletown.

By 1927, the building was added on to on the east side, with a four-storey addition, two bays wide, and a one-storey wing beyond. In 2009, the building was converted to condominiums. The windows were retained and restored in their original single-glazed form, and are considered to be character-defining features of the building.
