Description

Built in 1895, the Connacher Residence was originally located on the corner of E Broadway and Carolina Street. A modest example of Victorian architecture in Vancouver, the house features a full-width front verandah with hipped roof, spindlework, including its lathe turned porch columns and newel posts, as well as drop siding and scalloped cedar shingles. It was was originally home to a series of working class citizens, beginning with Robert Connacher, a retired contractor, in 1895.

In 1920, machinist Alex Videck purchased two lots on the SW corner of E Broadway and Carolina Street and built a machine shop. The house was moved one lot to the west in 1926 to allow for the construction of the Carolina Apartment at 2525 Carolina Street.

The whole block at E Broadway and Carolina Street has been redeveloped, during which the Connacher House was moved again to face Carolina Street.
