Description

Templeton Secondary School is a large three-storey building that was constructed between 1926-1928 as one of British Columbia’s first junior high schools. It is a reinforced concrete structure reflecting a 1920s proto-modernist aesthetic designed by the well-known architects Sharp & Thompson alongside the school board’s own architect F.A.A. Barrs. The building has a flat roof with parapets, roughcast stucco cladding, and wide banks of windows that provide a view of the North Shore mountains.

An addition to the structure was built in 1962, adding classroom space and a new gymnasium. The school is surrounded by a park-like property that features a large field and mature trees in front of the building, and sports facilities to the north and west such as tennis courts, basketball courts, and an indoor public swimming pool.
