Description

130 W 10th Avenue was built in stages, beginning in 1893 when it was an almost square two-storey pioneer Victorian home built by labourer John Crawford. In 1900, Crawford sold it to Richard H. Macauley, a fireman at fire hall #3 on Broadway. Macauley then added a one-storey addition to the back. In 1910 he undertook a major addition and renovation. This included modernizing the face of the house in the Edwardian style of that decade, apparently duplicating the design of the 1907 home at 150 W 10th Avenue.

In 2004, Mount Pleasant’s oldest home, Clark House, that was built at 243 E 5th Avenue in 1888 was relocated to 132 W 10th Avenue was disassembled and reconstructed to be part of an infill property.

The gable-end massing, horizontal wood cladding, double-hung fenestration and recessed balcony with colonnettes are representative of the houses constructed in the West Mount Pleasant Special Character Merit Area.
